The White House selects scholars based on their academic achievement, artistic and technical excellence, essays, school evaluations, community service and leadership.
The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program has honored over 7,500 of the nations top performing students with an annual ceremony in Washington, D.C. The 2019 Ceremony will be held June 23rd where each student will receive a Presidential Scholar Medallion.

Sheena has been an educator for more than 10 years. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in early childhood education with a cognate in reading at Jackson State University. Sheena completed a master’s degree in reading and received bachelor degrees in childcare and family education and elementary education at JSU. She holds a current Mississippi Educator License including endorsements in prekindergarten, kindergarten and reading (K-12). Sheena has served as co-chair of the Mississippi Early Childhood Alliance (MECA) Conference and has served as the site coordinator for teacher education candidates pursuing a degree in elementary education. Sheena’s research interest include education policy and factors related to teacher attrition in urban school districts.
